2.31. Check and adjustment of gaps of valves (model of 1998 of release)

GENERAL INFORMATION

Gaps of valves

1. Forward
2. Inlet valves
3. Final valves
4. Forward block of cylinders
5. Back block of cylinders

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Disconnect a wire of the minus plug of the accumulator.
2. Uncover the klapanny mechanism.
3. Establish the N1 cylinder piston in situation VMT at the moment of a compression step.
4. On models with the 4-cylinder engine establish the N1 cylinder piston in situation VMT at the moment of a step of compression and measure gaps of the specified valves.
5. On the 6-cylinder engine when the N1 piston is in situation VMT at the moment of a compression step, measure gaps of the valves marked with a letter A, turn a cranked shaft of the engine on 240 ° clockwise and measure gaps of the valves marked with a letter B, then turn a cranked shaft of the engine for 240 ° and measure gaps of the valves marked with a letter C (see fig. Gaps of valves).
6. Measure a gap between the lift of the valve and a camshaft cam by means of a set щупов – if a gap correct, at extraction щупа the friction should be felt.
7. On models with the four-cylinder engine when the piston of the N4 cylinder is in VMT at the moment of a compression step, measure gaps of final N2 valves and 4, and also inlet N3 valves and 4.
8. Adjustment of gaps of valves can be carried out, having removed a gas-distributing belt or without removing it.

Adjustment operation with removal of a gas-distributing belt

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Remove a gear belt and camshafts.
2. Remove washers from lifts of the valves demanding adjustment and measure their thickness.
3. Establish new washers of the demanded thickness, then establish camshafts and covers of bearings. Tighten fixing bolts till the demanded moment of an inhaling.
4. Repeatedly check klapanny gaps.

Adjustment operation without removal of a gas-distributing belt

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Turn a cranked shaft so that the cam over the valve demanding adjustment, was lifted up.
2. Turn the valve lift a crack to a spark plug. On the 6-cylinder engine turn off internal bolts of extreme covers of bearings of a camshaft (excepting big covers of persistent bearings). On the 4-cylinder engine turn off internal bolts of covers of the bearings closest to the adjustable valve. Establish on covers of bearings a level with a clip and fix it by means of long bolts. Twirl a clip, having lowered down the valve lift, and get an adjusting washer by means of a small screw-driver and a magnet or tweezers.
3. Measure thickness of a washer by means of a micrometer.
Calculate the demanded thickness of a new washer on the following formula:

N = T + (З – R)
where T – thickness of an old washer
З–klapanny gap
N – thickness of a new washer
R – a recommended klapanny gap

4. Establish a new washer, and repeatedly check a klapanny gap.
